Swaziland

Swaziland has a population of over 1.4 million.

Within agriculture, there is a mixture of subsistence and commercial farming. The staple crop is corn, and other crops include sorghum (mainly for the brewing of traditional beer), pumpkins, beans, peas and other vegetables. Large-scale commercial farming is held mainly in the hands of foreigners, although since independence the country has acquired a large stake in this sector.

77-100% of the food energy consumed in Swaziland comes from crops that are not native to the region. Most of these plants’ diversity is found elsewhere on the planet.
