Myanmar

Myanmar, also called Burma, has a population of around 56.9 million.

Myanmar’s economy is one of the least developed of the region and is fundamentally agricultural. Agriculture, forestry, and fishing together comprise the largest contributor to Myanmar’s economy. About half of all agricultural land in Myanmar is dedicated to rice.

13-19% of the food energy consumed in Myanmar comes from crops that are not native to the region. Most of these plants’ diversity is found elsewhere on the planet. There are 18,437 unique crop samples in collections of crop diversity found in Sri Lanka compared to the more than 750,000 found in the international collections of crop diversity supported by the Crop Trust.
