Micronesia

The Federated States of Micronesia is a country in the western Pacific Ocean, and comprises over 600 islands. It has a population of 105,576.

Micronesia’s principal economic activities are subsistence farming and fishing, with the main crops being breadfruit, taro, coconut and banana, as well as yam, cassava and sweet potato. Poultry, pigs and dogs are sometimes also raised for food.

Most food, including rice, fruits, vegetables, meat and fish, and almost all manufactured goods and fuel oil, must be imported.
