Biodiversity for Opportunities, Livelihoods and Development - BOLD Project
Biodiversity for Opportunities, Livelihoods and Development, or BOLD for short, is a 10-year project launched in 2021. The project is funded by the government of Norway and led by the Crop Trust in partnership with the Norwegian University of Life Sciences and the International Plant Treaty. BOLD works with genebanks around the world to help them manage their collections of crop diversity more effectively, and make better use of them to adapt agriculture to climate change. It supports genebanks to grow out and store copies of their seeds in the Svalbard Global Seed Vault in case of disaster. It helps to develop better networks between genebanks, plant breeders and farmers to improve access to seed diversity. And it’s developing new, resilient varieties of alfalfa, grasspea, durum wheat, potato, rice, finger millet and barley to confront the climate crisis, and secure a nutritious food supply for our children and their children.
