Crop Chronicles Podcast: Finger Millet - The Grandmother's Grain
There is a crop whose grain is gluten free, has more dietary fibre than brown rice and has more than 40% of essential amino acids. It reduces the risk of cancer, obesity and excessive cholesterol. It has more nutritional value than wheat, rye, barley and oats, ten times the calcium of rice and wheat and three times more than milk. It has anti-diabetic, anti-diarrheal, antiulcer, anti-inflammatory, antiumorigenic, anti-microbial and antioxidant properties. And it tastes great.
In this episode of the Crop Chronicles Podcast we’ll travel to Kenya and Tanzania to find out how the Crop Trust and a group of scientists are working to develop climate change resistant finger millet.
