Crop Trust a Finalist for Food Planet Prize
27 November 2020
The Global Crop Diversity Trust is honored to be recognized as a finalist for the 2020 Food Planet Prize, which was established by the Curt Bergfors Foundation in Sweden.
“Our food system is broken, and the planet is ailing,” said Curt Bergfors. “We are all part of the problem, and we must all try to be part of the solution. I want to contribute through the foundation and these awards.”
Established in 2019, the foundation supports initiatives that are reinventing the food chain and helps to build a system that is sustainable. This year's finalists represent the ingenuity in addressing the challenge of feeding a growing population without pushing the planet to its limits.
The Crop Trust supports genebanks around the world, including the Svalbard Global Seed Vault in Norway, to do exactly that. Due to its unique mission, and as the only international organization dedicated solely to conserving and making available crop diversity, the international jury selected the Crop Trust as a finalist from more than 650 nominations.
