The Crop Trust is grateful to the Norwegian government for steadfast support in conserving the world’s crop diversity and making it available for use. This year, Norway has pledged EUR 2.3 million to the Crop Trust’s Endowment Fund, ensuring the long-term conservation of crop diversity – an essential step toward sustainable global food security.

As Norway’s Minister for International Development,  Anne Beathe Kristiansen Tvinnereim, stated, “Without the preservation and development of crop seeds, we have no food.”

Without diversity, our food systems are at risk from climate change, diseases and other shocks. The Crop Trust’s Endowment Fund provides critical resources to support key global genebanks, including the Svalbard Global Seed Vault and the international genebanks managed by CGIAR. These genebanks safeguard the seeds that farmers, researchers and plant breeders rely on for future-proof agriculture.

Norway’s dedication underscores the importance of investing in genebanks and crop breeding. As Tvinnereim emphasized, “The Crop Trust is a key part of this global food security system.”

While Norway’s generosity advances our mission, the work of the Crop Trust is never done. To protect the seeds that feed the world, we welcome contributions from everyone. Together, we can ensure a resilient, diverse food system for generations to come.
