The Svalbard Global Seed Vault opens its doors to receive the first shipment of the world's crop diversity in 2025. This deposit marks a major milestone in international collaboration for food security and the conservation of crop diversity. It highlights the global commitment of genebanks small and large alike to safeguard crop diversity. Diverse actors will come together to increase the crop diversity stored in the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, many enabled by the Crop Trust’s Biodiversity for Opportunities, Livelihoods, and Development (BOLD) Project.
Members of the media are welcome to attend the deposit ceremony, at the Svalbard Global Seed Vault at 15:30 on 25 February 2025.
The evening before, at 19:00 on 24 February 2025, a special media reception will take place at the Funken Lodge Hotel to offer an overview of the event and facilitate meetings between the media and depositors. Interviews with depositors, experts and government leaders can be arranged.
